We tell you how the conditioned quinielas work and what are its advantages

Conditioned Quiniela: What Is It?

The first Quiniela ticket was played in 1942, a sports betting game based on the Spanish football league. Since then, millions of people have played this traditional game of chance.

In Quiniela, each player tries to predict the outcome of 15 matches from the first and second divisions of Spanish football. There are different ways to place your bets: simple Quinielas, reduced Quinielas, multiple Quinielas, and conditioned Quinielas — the latter being the one we’re going to explain here.

How to Fill Out a Conditioned Quiniela

Let’s explain how to create a conditioned Quiniela. It starts the same way as a regular ticket: you fill out one column and can include as many doubles or triples as you like (i.e., marking two or three outcomes per match).

While a standard Quiniela requires you to mark your predictions using doubles or triples, in the conditioned Quiniela you must also set conditions for certain matches. One such condition is the number of variants (X’s or 2’s) you expect to appear in the final results.

So, you must fill in the “Combinations” column, indicating the number of doubles or triples used. In our example, we chose seven doubles and no triples. Therefore, we would mark an X under the "7 doubles" column, leaving the triples blank.

Next, mark an X for each match where you placed a double. Then, indicate the number of variants by selecting how many X’s and 2’s you want to include. The sum of X’s and 2’s must match the total variants — for example, you cannot select 5 variants but mark 3 X’s and 3 2’s. In our case, we selected 5 variants (3 X’s + 2 2’s).

If you play a conditioned Quiniela instead of a direct multiple, you'll notice a significant price difference:

A direct system with 7 doubles would cost €96.

But using the conditioned system (7 doubles + 5 variants with 3 X’s and 2 2’s), the price drops to just €13.50.
